New York’s Irish stars come Home to London A
host of Hollywood actors star in a new poetic documentary about the life
of an Irish immigrant in New York that is set to screen at a London exhibition
centre.
Home, a film by Dublin writer and producer Alan Cooke, will open in Riverside
Studios in Hammersmith on July 18.
The production tells the tale of an Irish immigrant’s journey in
New York with an all-star cast including Woody Allen, Mike Myers and Liam
Neeson.
In addition to immigrants the filmmakers gained access to some of the
world’s most famous New Yorkers including Neeson, Allen, Myers as
well as Susan Sarandon, Colin Quinn and Frank and Malachy McCourt.
All speak candidly about the city and the concept of home, change, nostalgia
and dreams coming true.
Native New Yorker and filmmaker Dawn Scibilia created Home on a shoestring
budget.
And the result is an impeccably-shot love letter to the city and meditation
on the concept of home.
The film recently sold out the Walter Reade Theatre at the Lincoln Center
and it won Best Documentary at the Magners Boston Irish Film Festival.
Filmmaker Jim Sheridan said: “It beautifully captures the Irish
immigrant’s journey through the myth and mystery of New York.”
And Irish actor Gabriel Byrne described the film as “a heartfelt
and lyrical journey about the meaning of home”.
