New album but still trademark Warfield

DEREK Warfield is a singer, songwriter, mandolin player, noted historian and charismatic founding member of the celebrated Irish rebel group The Wolfe Tones.

He is widely considered a seminal figure on the Irish music scene, and continues to tour the world taking with him the story of Ireland — a story he has championed for more than 40 years.

Accompanied by the highly-acclaimed Sons of Erin band Derek Warfield is now promoting his newest release that is energetic and imbued with the passion that has kindled his fiery ballad singing throughout his career.

God Save Ireland features Derek Warfield at his very best, singing the songs that have become his trademark over the last four decades.

Containing 36 favourite patriotic songs and ballads the album celebrates Derek’s 43 years in the world of Irish ballads with favourites that he has brought to international audiences during his nearly four decades of touring with the Wolfe Tones until the band’s break up some years back.

He says: “Ballads are among the foremost of our native Irish traditions and are a literary, poetic and musical expression of the Irish people.

“Their content and stories reveal the multitude of issues that were and are important to the Irish communities both in Ireland and abroad.

“It’s my hope that listening to this collection of songs will inspire in listeners a love for Ireland and an appreciation for preserving what so many patriots, known and unknown, fought, sacrificed and even died to defend.”
