O’Toole to play artist Kinkade in next movie

IRISHMAN Peter O’Toole is in final negotiations to star in a new film called The Christmas Cottage, which is based on a painting by American artist Thomas Kinkade.

Reports suggest that the film will be part biographical and will look at the events that influenced Kinkade to become an artist.

O’Toole is in final negotiations to play painter Glen Weissler, who is based on one of Kinkade’s mentors.

The film is due to go into production this month in Vancouver, Canada.

IRISH writer Sebastian Barry’s book A Long Long Way has been shortlisted for this year’s International Impac Dublin Literary Award.

Eight novels are featured on the shortlist for the ?100,000 prize, including books by Salman Rushdie, JM Coetzee, Julian Barnes and Cormac McCarthy.

The Impac which is the world’s largest literary prize for a single work of fiction is chosen from nominations submitted by libraries around the world.

A Long Long Way was also nominated for the Booker Prize in 2005 and is the featured novel in the current Dublin: One City, One Book campaign.

Other books shortlisted include Arthur And George by Julian Barnes, Slow Man by JM Coetzee and The Short Day Dying by Peter Hobbs.

ROCKER Ozzy Osbourne has announced that he will play Dublin this summer.

The legendary singer will play Dublin’s Point Theatre on Tuesday July 3.Tickets are priced from ?55.50 and go on sale on Thursday, April 12 at 9am.Osbourne will be supported at the gig by Black Label Society.

CHILDREN’S charity Barnardo’s has criticised Ireland’s political parties, claiming they have pushed children’s welfare down the political agenda.

In a recent report, the organisation says one-in-10 Irish children still live in consistent poverty and too little is being done to tackle the problem.
