| Oscar Wilde Awards The
Academy Awards were not the only Oscar ceremony held in Hollywood as more
than 500 people turned up at the nearby Wilshire Event Ebell Theatre to
attend the Oscar Wilde Awards, designed to honour Irish film writers.
The event, organised by the US Ireland Alliance, is only in its second
year but has already carved a significant place for itself on the LA social
circuit.
Terry George, the film writer who draws heavily from his Northern roots,
was presented with an award by Irish actress Fionnula Flanagan.
“Movies are cultural touchstones of collective consciousness,”
said George. “Film is a universal language and a medium through
which we communicate.”
