Sharon takes new album on tour

By Grainne McLoughlin

CLARE accordion player Sharon Shannon was this week setting out on a 10-date tour of Ireland.

The Diamond Mountain Sessions 2006 tour sees Shannon joined by special guests Mundy, Dessie O'Halloran, Jon Kenny and The Richie Buckley Band.

The dates come following the release of her new double 29-track album The Sharon Shannon Collection 1990-2005 which includes five new recordings.

The tracks featured are selected from her catalogue to encapsulate the scope of Shannon’s musical influences which range from traditional Irish to dance, reggae, Cajun, classical and French-Canadian music.

These influences are reflected in the eclectic mix of musicians that she has collaborated with over the past 15 years including Donal Lunny, Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster, Sinéad O’Connor, dub master Denis Bovell, Carlos Nunez and violin virtuoso Nigel Kennedy.

The Diamond Mountain Sessions 2006 tour started with a special date at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre before hitting the road for shows in Letterkenny, Portlaoise, Sligo and Galway.
