Shayne’s the apple of his mum’s eye

By Grainne McLoughlin

Irish mothers and their sons — it’s a relationship renowned worldwide as impenetrable. Now X-Factor star Shayne Ward has proved it’s not only one way traffic by buying his mother her dream house.

The second-generation Irishman, who fought off competition from thousands of hopefuls to win the X-Factor crown, saw sales of his debut single smash records during the first week of its release.

It’s those record sales that have enabled him to stay true to his word that when he first got paid he’d buy his mum somewhere to live.

He said: “My mum found one she fell in love with straight away. When I told her I’d bought the house she cried. She was so happy.”

The Daniel Beddingfield fan is now preparing for the release of his next single No Promises of which the video will be based on the Patrick Swayze movie Ghost.

Ward’s manager Louis Walsh is also a very happy bunny. Not only is he set to make a fortune on his latest find he has also just signed a £1million TV deal to appear as a judge on the next X-Factor series.

He said: “Sharon Osbourne is probably getting even more than that but I’m not bothered. I’m delighted. When I was a kid in Kiltimagh I never dreamed of stuff like this.”

He also said of Shayne: “The X-Factor does make dreams come true. Shayne will be bigger than Robbie Williams.

“When he goes on tour early next year he won’t be starting off in small venues ñ heíll be going straight to arenas. He’s that big.

“Shayne will have concerts in Ireland in February or March next year. His next album is out on April 17 and his Irish fans can see him perform on the Late Late Show on April 21. It’s all happening for him.”
