Singer Feeney’s the top Choice

By GRAINNE McLOUGHLIN

Classically-trained singer Julie Feeney scooped the top prize at the inaugural Choice Music Prize, which celebrates the Irish album of the year.

Fighting off competition from artists and bands including Bell X1 and the Chalets, the Galway singer picked up a cheque for ¤10,000 as well as a specially-commissioned glass award for her debut album 13 Songs.

The Vicar Street ceremony was hosted by RTÉ’s Cormac Battle and Today FM’s Alison Curtis.

The Choice Music Prize was launched in a bid to highlight albums which deserve extra recognition.
