The Hacienda Classics FOR THOSE of you with
long memories The Hacienda was THE place to be in Manchester in the 1980s.
It first opened in 1982 and quickly established itself as a front-runner
in the British club scene.
This collection, compiled and mixed by Peter Hook, contains some of the
best tunes to have emerged from that era before The Hacienda finally closed
its doors in 1997.
CD1 opens with the excellent K-Klass’s Rhythm Is A Mystery and also
contains such classics as Happy Mondays’s Hallelujah, New Order’s
Confusion and Rockers Revenge’s Walking On Sunshine. But it’s
the real club classics that excel with 808 State’s Pacific State,
A Guy Called Gerald’s Voodoo Ray and Farley Jackmaster Funk’s
Love Can’t Turn Around all ably rounded off with a dancefloor giant
— Black Box’s Ride On Time.
CD2 continues in much the same vein — Candi Staton’s You Got
The Love being the stand-out track (even today it is just as cool and
has just been remixed and re-released).
Other tracks worth a close listen to are Todd Terry’s Weekend, Al
Naayfish’s Hashim (The Soul) and The Future Sound Of London’s
Papua New Guinea.
Classics one and all and a great reminder of a great times in Britain’s
rich and varied musical history
Pop Princesses 3

popular female solo artiste or band that you could think of are represented

Band of the moment Pussycat Dolls are here with their massive chart hit

Thing), Rihanna (Pon De Replay) and Mis-teeq (Can’t Get It Back).

If it’s pure pop you’re after then Britney’s Toxic,
JoJo’s Leave or Girls Aloud’s Biology will amply fit the bill.

Valance’s Kiss Kiss and Nelly Furtado’s Turn Off The Light
