The Rebel Hearts’ first tour of Britain

CELEBRITY endorsements, a new album and a debut tour in England are propelling a Tipperary-born band into the British limelight just in time for the St. Patrick’s celebrations.

A passion for music and a shared love of their country has seen The Rebel Hearts transform their talent and friendship into a successful band which is fast becoming a global phenomenon.

And after eight years together, the five-piece group, who all hail from Tipperary, show no signs of slowing down as they tour Britain for the first time this month.

Coinciding their tour with the St. Patrick’s weekend will see the lads, Jamie Mockler, Tom Doran and Paudie Skehan from Moycarkey and Liam and Padraig Coen from Rossmore, visiting Leeds, London and Birmingham from March 13-17.

Band manager Seán Mockler told The Irish Post: “The boys are excited about going to England, it’s a long overdue tour.

“They all love the music, the crowd and entertaining, which is what it’s all about, so whether they are playing to 50 or 1,000 people they give the same passion and same great entertainment.”

With music based on Ireland’s struggles over the past 800 years the boys claim their passion for their homeland is as important as their music.

Seán said: “They all carry strong feelings about Ireland and have political but anti-violence messages that they like to spread through their music.

“They have all been musicians in their own right from a young age but the band kind of happened by accident.”

He added: “Three of the boys met at school and their music gelled, once the other two joined they realised that had a great band and became The Rebel Hearts.”

Their music is a lively blend, mixing some of the old rebel songs and a few tunes that they have written themselves.

They are also about to record their third album so the English tour will give a sneak preview of that too.

And their upbeat gigs have already amassed a wealth of fans, some across the globe and others from celebrity circles closer to home.

Seán explained: “This English tour is something they have been looking forward to for some time but we did play in Reading last month — at Irish international footballer Shane Long’s 21st party.

“He is a Tipperary boy and a big fan of the band, he said he wouldn’t have anyone else perform and we had a great weekend.”

The band has also spent 10 months touring Australia, further strengthening their global fan-base.
