Top Irish film opens in Britain An award-winning Irish
film is to be given its British cinema premiere this week.
Garage is the second offering from director Lenny Abrahamson and writer
Mark O’Halloran — the team behind the black comedy Adam &
Paul.
A landmark in Irish cinema, the film is a beautifully portrayed drama
interspersed with razor sharp shards of black humour, with acutely observed
characters that leave a lasting impression.
Staring Irish comedian Pat Shortt as a well-meaning misfit and petrol
station attendant Josie, Garage is the story of a man’s hapless
search for intimacy over the course of a summer which sees his life changed
forever.
The film, much of which was shot in a small Co. Tipperary town, won the
CICAE Award at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and also picked
up prizes in Dinard, Monte Carlo and Turin.
Garage opens on March 7 in London at the Curzon in Soho, the Gate in Notting
Hill and at the Clapham Picturehouse.
It will also show at the Showroom in Sheffield, the Watershed in Bristol,
Glasgow’s Film Theatre and the Queens Film Theatre in Belfast.
