Woman in search for long-lost brother
Lydon
By PHIL CAMPION
IRISH woman Janet Small is on a mission — to share childhood memories
with punk rocker John Lydon.
The Tesco store manager shares the same mother as the former Sex Pistol
— but has been thwarted in her attempts to meet him.
Now she believes the only way to get his attention is to fly out to his
home in America and confront him.
The mother-of-two from Chepstow, Wales said: “It’s rotten
being related to Johnny.”
“I want to go out there, turn up on his doorstep, show him my birth
certificate and see what he has to say for himself.”
The 51-year-old former convent schoolgirl said: “I’m not after
his money, I just want him to accept me.”
Janet claims their Irish-born mum Eileen gave her up for adoption as a
shamed single mum in 1954 after she had a fling with a barman called Patrick.
She married Lydon’s father John the following year and had four
sons.
Eileen died in 1978, but Lydon’s 74-year-old dad has welcomed her
into the family.
It was only by chance that Janet discovered she was related to the punk
rocker who is famed for bad language and storming off TV sets.
She was watching him on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here and
her husband Nigel said they shared the same nose.
Janet knew her mum had married a man called John Lydon and tracked him
down.
She said: “I think it’s time I went over there and knocked
on his door.
“I always thought John was a straight-talking man who spoke his
mind and told it how it is but I guess money changes people.
“John’s dad has already welcomed me into the family and I
am going to London in a few weeks to see where my mother’s ashes
are scattered.” she added.
“John Lydon Snr says it’s about time John accepted me as his
half-sister.
“He has accepted it and he wants John to accept it too. He has told
John about me but John just won’t get in touch.ess he just thinks
I am a liar which I’m not.”
