Hollywood heartthrob Colin Farrell is to star opposite Scarlett Johansson in Borgia — Irish director Neil Jordan’s film about the most powerful family in 15th Century Rome.

Farrell and Johansson will play the siblings Rodrigo and Lucrezia Borgia — the children of the scheming Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia.

Jordan’s script is said to be filled with betrayal, backstabbing and murder — with Johansson playing a woman torn between family duties and a desire to find true love.

Farrell’s character is described as duplicitous and manipulative.

Production on the movie will begin in April.
