Irish heartthrob Pierce Brosnan has slammed the producers of James Bond for ignoring the talented Scotsman Ewan McGregor for the coveted 007 role.

McGregor, who stands at 5 feet 10 inches tall, was denied consideration simply because he measures four centimetres short of the minimum Bond requirement.

And Brosnan, who starred as the superspy in the last four Bond films, is outraged.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s such a stupid reason. Ewan is a fine actor and he’s tall anyway. I couldn’t believe it.”

Since the 52-year-old Irish star was controversially axed from the role earlier this year, a host of other hopefuls have been rumoured as his successor including Clive Owen and Julian McMahon.

The upcoming film will be called Casino Royale.
