Sunday Morning Songs

By Phil Savva

AH SUNDAY mornings — traditionally a time to wake up slowly and chill out. So this double CD will certainly help create the mood.

Featuring 37 songs from some of today’s top contemporary artistes and some golden oldies this will definitely ease you into a feeling of well-being.

CD1 opens with José Gonzalez’s brand new release Heartbeats (you may recognise it from a TV ad campaign) and follows up with the quirky but highly-successful JCB song from Nizlopi.

In fact there are quite a few tunes you’ll probably recognise from ad campaigns on this CD — The Zutons’ Confusion (Peugeot) and Nouvelle Vague’s Teenage Kicks (T-Mobile).

Other contributions come from K T Tunstall (Other Side Of The World), Supergrass (St. Petersburg), Crowded House (Four Seasons In One Day) and Lemon Jelly (In The Bath).

CD2 kicks off with Coldplay’s Fix You and follows up with the talented Richard Ashcroft’s new release Break The Night With Colour.

In addition to these current hits there are classic offerings from The Beach Boys (In My Room), Julie London (Cry Me A River), Bobby Womack (California Dreamin’), Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here) and Chet Baker (My Funny Valentine).

Possibly my all-time favourite on this CD is the smooth and mellow Avalon from Roxy Music.

Norah Jones (Come Away With Me) and Kate Bush (This Woman’s Work) also chip in with recent releases.

Club Nights

By Phil Savva

THREE stonking CDs-worth of some of the hottest club tunes around at the moment.

If you like your dance music then you’ll love this collection of high-energy, party-inducing, good-time feeling tunes.

CD1 sets the mood by opening with the brand spanking new release from Hi-Tack Say Say Say (ingeniously sampling the Paul McCartney/Michael Jackson collaboration of the 80s).

There are also new releases form Herd & Fitz (I Just Can’t Get Enough), Freemasons (Watchin’), Royksopp (What Else Is There) and Mylo (Muscle Car).

Recent club hotties Weekend (Michael Gray), I Like The Way (Bodyrockers) and Ai No Corrida (Uniting Nations) are also featured alongside a reworking of old school classic De Lacy’s Hideaway.

CD2 opens with Bob Sinclair’s Love Generation and follows up with the heady bass beats of Filterfunk’s SOS sampling the old Police classic Message In A Bottle.

Recent chart hits Out Of Touch (Uniting Nations), I’ve Got The Music In Me (Boogie Pimps) and Dr Pressure (Mylo vs Miami Sound Machine) are also here mixed together with more hardcore dance offerings from Axwell (Feel The Vibe), Dajae (Brighter Days) and Chanel (My Life).

Another classic gets a makeover in the form of D.O.N.S. featuring Technotronic with Pump Up The Jam.

CD3 features the mixing team of Uniting Nation doing the business on a number of the aforementioned tracks and also contains the saucy video to Hi-Tack’s Say Say Say.
