| Furey heads for Britain
By Joe Mullarkey
One of Ireland greatest musical ambassadors Finbar Furey is touring Britain
from November 10 to 27.
Joining Finbar on the tour is pianist and guitarist Gary O’Briain — one
of the most highly-regarded accompanists in Irish traditional music.
The Dublin-born musician has performed and worked with countless artists
including De Dannan, Boys Of The Lough and Danu.
Finbar is also joined by the brilliant Maurice Lennon of Stockton’s Wing
on fiddle.
Finbar Furey has done much to popularise Irish music for the past 30
years — bringing it to a wide and appreciative audience.
Since1996 he has been presenting his definitive one-man show on stage
and performing his own distinctive style of music and song.
His reputation continues to increase with every performance and he has
toured extensively in Britain, Australia, Europe and America.
Finbar’s latest album Chasing Moonlight has just been voted Best Traditional
Album in the prestigious Irish Music Awards.
One of Ireland’s most lovable musical ambassadors Finbar Furey’s piping
style is unique.
It displays untamed virtuosity in the reels and jigs but with all the
sadness of times past or love lost in the laments.
This combined with songs old and new will provide a night to savour and
remember.
The tour takes in Skegness, Selby, Morecambe, Brecon, Luton, Reading,
Narberth in Pembrokeshire, Brighton, Winchester, Birmingham and Hammersmith
in London.
