Nadine has a pop at her pop rivals

By Grainne McLoughlin

Girls Aloud’s Irish singer Nadine Coyle has hit out at the on this year’s X Factor — despite herself shooting to fame via a TV talent show.

Nadine Coyle has been critical of the latest crop of wannabees on TV’s X Factor

The Derry-born 21-year-old star joined her bandmate Nicola Roberts in trashing the show — claiming the acts aren’t up to scratch and the judges are too harsh.

Nadine and Nicola — whose own group was formed as part of the talent show Popstars: The Rivals — lashed out in an interview with OK! Magazine.

Nicola said: “I don’t think the talent is that good this time round.”

“I mean, look at Chico — what is that? That’s what you get when you try and make good TV rather than a talent show.”

And Nadine Coyle revealed she had asked X Factor judge the Girls Aloud manager Louis Walsh to go easy on the acts.

She said: “I can’t watch it. The judges are just so harsh.

“I told Louis Walsh that he should give them constructive criticism and not just destroy them.”

Meanwhile, former X Factor finalist Phillip Magee has said he still hopes to pursue a pop career.

The 21-year-old Northern Irish student — who was voted off the show two weeks ago — said: “It is disappointing but I am not going to beat myself up about it.

“I still want to pursue a singing career and really hope something comes out of being on the X Factor.

“I would love a recording contract.”

And the pop hopeful also questioned the voting process on the show saying: “At the end of the day it comes down to one of the judges and that judge might not like you for some personal reason.”

No sour grapes there, then.
