| Samantha’s Addictive to Watch Irish
pop singer-turned actress Samantha Mumba has revealed her latest role as
a drug addict in the Northern Irish thriller Johnny Was posed a real challenge
— but one she embraced entirely.
The Dublin beauty said: “We just wrapped up in Belfast a few weeks ago,
so that is probably going to be out next February or March.
“I’m looking forward to it but I probably won’t get to see a cut of it
for another month or so.
“It was a challenge anyway just being the only woman on set.
That in itself was a challenge never mind the acting or doing anything
else.”
In the film — which stars Vinnie Jones, Lennox Lewis and Patrick Bergin
— Mumba plays the girlfriend of a drug-dealing London gangster who captures
the not-so-amorous attentions of another dangerous gangster.
She said: “It is kind of the only female role in the film.
She is a heroin addict and people have been harping on about that but
actually that just happens to be what she is.
“That’s not what the story is about or what her storyline is about. It
is kind of just giving a background on how messed up she is in her head.
“The thing I loved about the character is she kind of gets redemption
in the end.”
Mumba also stars in a zombie horror film, Boy Eats Girl, which is set
to hit cinema screens soon.
