| Ahern jets off to raise Irish profile
IRISH
Government ministers will soon be jetting off to raise the country’s
profile overseas and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the Irish
Diaspora.
The Taoiseach’s schedule to the United States includes a visit to
the Twin Towers Memorial Center in New York.
On Wednesday, March 14 he will attend an American-Ireland Fund dinner
in Washington.
Mr Ahern will meet former US President Bill Clinton and Senator Ted Kennedy
on Capitol Hill on Thursday, March 15.
He is also due to attend a lunch hosted by the first female US House of
Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi and will be a guest at the Irish
Ambassador’s reception that evening.
On March 16 President George Bush will be presented with a bowl of shamrock
by the Taoiseach at a traditional ceremony in the White House before he
flies back to Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day.
Minister for Finance Brian Cowen will travel to Chicago, the Minister
for Communications Noel Dempsey to Texas, Minister for Transport Martin
Cullen to San Francisco and the Minister for Social Affairs Seamus Brennan
to Rome.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheal Martin, who travels
extensively during the year as part of international trade delegations,
will attend the celebrations in his home city of Cork.
