Baby-flee parents return to England
The couple that
fled to Ireland to prevent social workers snatching their unborn child
have been told by British courts they can finally take their baby home.
Nicky Hardingham gave birth to baby Brandon, 6lb, 5oz, at Wexford General
Hospital and thought she would be safe to stay in Ireland with husband
Mark Webster.
But the couple changed plans quickly and returned to Britain when a midwife
told them the baby would have a section 12 order put on him allowing gardaí
to take Brandon without notice.
Social workers in East Anglia had taken their other three children away
when one of them had unexplained injuries.
The couple claim that their children should not have been taken away from
them and the injuries can be explained by a brittle bone condition, which
four generations of Nicky’s family suffer from.
Mark aged 33 and Nicky aged 26 agreed to spend four-and-a-half months
under 24-hour supervision at an assessment centre in Peterborough with
baby Brandon and had undergone in-depth assessments by psychologists and
psychiatrists.
Sarah Harman — the solicitor acting for the couple — read
a statement on the steps of the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand,
London. It said: “This is not a celebration.
“It is an important step forward for Nicola and Mark — they
are being allowed to take Brandon back home pending a final hearing in
June.”
