Body in Hudson river could be missing Irish man A
BODY pulled from the Hudson River in New York City is believed to be that
of 29-year-old Tulsk man Tony Devine who has been missing since November.
New York City Police spokesman Sergeant Carlos Nieves said the body was
found face up on rocks near the George Washington Bridge by an 18-year-old
man who was fishing near 168th Street and Riverside Drive.
New York City Medical Examiner’s Office spokesperson Ellen Borakove
said a positive identification had not been made and that an autopsy was
pending.
A police statement indicated that the body was a white male wearing a
white shirt with stripes, jeans and light brown boots matching the description
of the clothing Tony Devine was last seen wearing.
Tony Devine’s younger brother Martin said: “There’s
a lot we don’t know. I went down to the morgue and his clothes seem
to fit his description but not the actual body. Right now we’re
waiting on results from a DNA test.”
He added results from the DNA test could take up to two months to be released.
Tony Devine was last heard from during a brief mobile phone call after
a night out in Manhattan. He went missing after he split from a group
of friends that met at the Galway Hooker Bar and then at Slattery’s
Bar — both on 36th Street. He worked in Manhattan as a carpenter.
Family and friends launched an intensive search for him which involved
the distribution of a huge number of missing person fliers and the offering
of a $50,000 reward. |
