Community TV channel brings memories to life
A new broadband
television service from ITV which aims to bring local filmmakers and communities
closer together has embraced the Irish community in London.
ITV Local is currently showing a film called The Irish Tale that features
stories told by two Irishmen who emigrated to London 50 years ago and
settled in Highbury.
The film is a document of their memories and experiences and more Irish
stories are to follow.
ITV Local channel assistant Lena Lau is hopeful that the Irish in the
city will embrace the new technology and use it as an opportunity to get
their stories out.
She said: “I’m really excited about working with the Irish
community and seeing more short films about their life and their views.
You can be surprised by what’s on your doorstep and The Irish Tale
is only the tip of the iceberg.
“Community plays an integral role in ITV Local’s vision so
every contribution on the grassroots level is important to us. It’s
all about real stories told by real people.”
The Irish Tale is scheduled on the ITV Local’s London Life channel
under the Borough of Islington.
Follow the link www.itvlocal.com/london/londonlife/index and select
Islington in the yellow middle section.
This opens a page with a video screen and a scrollable list of films on
the right-hand side which includes The Irish Tale.
