| Crash family celebrate baby Lucy’s christening
By Elaine Sheridan
Middlesex couple Colin and Louise O’Shea are lucky to be alive
after the cab they were travelling in veered off the road and hit a tree.
It was their first night out together in five months since the birth of
their first child Lucy.
The proud-parents had been celebrating Colin’s 35th birthday at
a local pub just hours before the horrific accident which occurred last
February and was so serious the cab driver died on route to hospital,
with mum Louise having to be cut from the wreckage.
But now five months on the long-awaited christening of their daughter
has finally taken place, having had to be cancelled on two previous occasions.
Scores of family and friends turned out to celebrate the occasion at St.
Gabriel’s Church in South Harrow.
Louise, whose grandmother hails from Co. Mayo said: “I’ll
never forget that awful night back in February. We were after having such
a wonderful evening with family and friends and everyone was in good spirits.
We had just dropped off Colin’s two sisters and were continuing
on our journey home.
“Unfortunately we didn’t make it home and ended up in Northwick
Park Hospital where we were treated for our injuries. The poor taxi driver
died of a suspected heart-attack.”
Teacher Louise broke the femur bone in her right leg, which had to be
operated on and resulted in a four-week stay in hospital.
There is now a metal plate through her bone and this has to remain in
place for the next 18 months.
Her husband Colin, a carpenter whose mum and dad are both from Limerick,
was also injured damaging tendons in his hand and breaking a small bone
in the back.
He has only now returned to work after receiving months of physiotherapy.
Thirty-four-year-old Louise said: “It’s been a hard few months
for all of us. It was really hard being in hospital for over a month while
Lucy was so young. Luckily both mine and Colin’s parents live nearby
in Middlesex and they have been marvellous looking after Lucy.
“We both feel so lucky to be alive today. The christening was a
very special occasion for everyone and one we will remember with great
fondness.” |
