Dublin a popular choice for British
family holiday breaks
Dublin
has beaten Paris and Rome as the city of choice for British parents.
It comes third on the list behind the number one destination, Barcelona
and Britain’s own capital London, as the most favoured for a family
break.
The list of tourist destinations was chosen by families in an internet
poll.
A total of 23 per cent of British parents voted Barcelona the top city
for short breaks, followed by London at 22 per cent and the fair city
of Dublin came third with 15 per cent of votes.
The poll of over 800 parents was carried out by the family travel website
takethefamily.com.
Its managing director Lucy Ace said that short city breaks are becoming
more and more popular with families.
“City hotels are increasingly offering family packages with inter-connecting
rooms, kids menus as well as free entry to museums, zoos and other family-focused
activities and events,” she said.
The prestigious accolade comes just weeks after the Irish capital city
was voted the top destination for Christmas by travel guide Lonely Planet.
The capital featured on a top 10 Bluelist of places that were the most
impressive during various seasons.
The destinations included Tokyo during hanami, Rome in summer, Reykjavik
in midnight sunshine, Anchorage in salmon season, New York City in June
and London in May.
The Lonely Planet guide mentioned many city landmarks that made Dublin
the place to be at Christmas. It said: “December in Dublin is remarkably
high-spirited.”
