Exhibition urges city dwellers to go rural CITY dwellers
in Ireland are being urged to swap urban living for the charms of the
country.
An exhibition called Leitrim A New Life has opened in Dublin with more
than 40 trade stands focusing on the county’s quality of life.
A business award worth ?30,000 has also been launched to persuade companies
to move west.
A spokesman for the venture said: “This exhibition and conference
will showcase Leitrim as an ideal place for a new life, for businesses
and workers to relocate to and for companies to set up.
“Leitrim offers exciting opportunities for business. We have a can-do
approach to fostering and encouraging business and we enjoy an unequalled
quality of life.”
Leitrim County Council and Leitrim County Development Board teamed up
to launch the campaign.
Leitrim County Manager Jackie Maguire said: “We’ve received
tremendous support from local industry and business as well as our national
network of Leitrim business people.
“Leitrim offers beautiful coastal and lakeland scenery, good value
in housing, quality childcare, excellent schools and no traffic congestion.”
The drive to attract people to Leitrim comes amid growing concern that
Ireland’s economic well-being has become concentrated around the
big cities with Dublin and Cork attracting the bulk of foreign investment.
