Ireland comes out top in IVF survey

IVF patients are treated better in Ireland than in Britain according to a major survey from independent organisation IVFworld.com.

Irish IVF clinics beat many of the British regions including London and the South East in the survey.

The Northern Ireland-based Regional Fertility Centre came out top, while the Cork Fertility Clinic and Dublin-based Sims International Fertility Clinic both received a coveted five-star rating in Southern Ireland.

All of these IVF clinics boast scores of more than 89 per cent in the survey, putting them in the Britain and Ireland Top 20.

The survey looks at patient experience, which according to IVFworld.com is what patients feel really matters when they go through a cycle of fertility treatment.

According to a spokesperson from IVFworld.com IVF clinics cannot guarantee patients a child but they can guarantee the way patients are treated from the moment they walk through the door of the clinic right through to aftercare.

She said: “The experience a patient has at a fertility clinic can be equally or even more stressful than the surgical procedures they are put through and given that stress is said to have an impact on whether or not a patient falls pregnant, this is a crucial factor.”

“The key to a successful clinic cannot be determined by live birth rates alone, as the current figures available for live birth rates don't take into account many of the key variables such as hormone levels at the start of treatment and the figures are usually at least two years out-of-date in the fast changing field of medicine. Live birth rates can give the patient a misleading impression of what really counts and which clinics are truly leading the way in this field.”

IVFworld.com’s survey looks at what makes a successful fertility clinic, exploring what patients feel is important in order for them to have a good experience at a fertility clinic. This includes whether or not the clinic staff are sensitive to their needs during treatment.

London as a whole comes third from the bottom when compared with other regions. Only East Midlands and East Anglia come further down the list.

IVFworld.com is the biggest independent fertility patients and ratings organisation in Britain.
