Irish scientists building up links with Britain

A SCIENTIFIC business network has grown rapidly between Britain and Ireland over the past 12 months all as a result of an internet website.

Techlink aims to join the skills and knowledge base of Irish biotechnology centres to the biotechnology sphere in Britain to enable a greater concentrated wealth of accessible knowledge.

Members can put their own information onto the site including profiles of individuals and organisations, news, events, CVs and job vacancies.

Members can also take part in discussion groups and register online for the face-to-face BioConnect Ireland events.

The site is a central source of information on all aspects of biotechnology in Ireland and highlights Ireland as a centre for biotech excellence in basic and applied research as well a location for biotech businesses large and small.

The establishment of the website came as the result of strong growth in the Irish biotechnology sector and the success of BioConnect Ireland — the Irish offline biotechnology network established in 2001.

Requests were made for a single centralised source of information following an increase in the number of companies and research institutes focusing on biotechnology in Britain and Ireland.

Techlink’s mission for the future continues to be to establish a national network in Britain to foster links of mutual benefit between individuals, organisations and institutions within the greater Irish scientific community.
