A PIONEERING venture has been launched in Leeds to promote a greater
understanding of Ireland and the Irish and highlight the positive contributions
Irish people have made to life in Britain.
Irish History Month sees a variety of projects around the Yorkshire city
including music, dance, lectures, literature, arts and crafts, various
workshops, sports and outdoor celebrations.
The various events are being organised by The Irish Arts Foundation, Leeds
CCE, Leeds Metropolitan University, the St. Patrick’s Day Committee,
Artforms Education, the Yorkshire GAA Board, University of Leeds, City
Varieties Theatre, Leeds Irish Health and Homes, Leeds Irish Centre and
the Leeds Irish Professionals Network.
All of the organisations are pulling together to make the whole event
a success.
The Irish History Month was launched at the Carriageworks Theatre in
the centre of Leeds where a one day family event was held to start the
month off.
The family day included workshops, Irish dancing, crafts, live seisuns
and a range of exhibitions and displays culminating with music from the
Mayo traditional group Céide.
