Magnate plans lake to replicate county BILLIONAIRE
JP McManus plans to build a huge lake in the exact shape of his beloved
Co. Limerick in the grounds of his mansion.
As part of a multi-million euro project to transform his entire estate
the horse racing tycoon has lodged plans with the local authority for
the 31,000sq m water feature.
Detailed plans for the lake at his Martinstown estate show the entire
boundary of the Treaty County will be replicated in exact detail.
Mr McManus is well-known for his immense pride in his native county.
He is the main sponsor of Limerick’s GAA teams and has contributed
?5million towards the redevelopment of the GAA headquarters in Limerick.
Over thee years he has also donated more than €100million to local
charities and organisations.
If the lake gets the go-ahead it would be two-and-a-half times the size
of Croke Park. But Limerick County Council has already voiced concerns
the development may look out of place due to its size.
The authority has now asked for a revised version minimising the use of
artificial embankments and adding gently sloping grades.
Mr McManus and his wife have already splashed out more than €100million
on building their luxurious 40,000sq ft home in Martinstown. |
