Mansfield’s Irish get set for summer of fun The Irish
in Mansfield are in for a fun-packed summer with several events taking
place over the coming months.
Preparations are under way this week for St. Patrick’s annual summer
fair, which takes place
in the grounds of St. Patrick’s School, Ling Forest Road, Mansfield
on Saturday, July 7 from noon.
The family event will have stalls and sideshows to suit all ages.
A six-a-side soccer tournament will also take place.
This year the fair’s big prize draw includes a series of great prizes,
including free ferry travel from Birkenhead (Liverpool) to Dublin plus
two nights’ bed and breakfast at the four-star Carlton Atlantic
Coast Hotel in Westport, Co. Mayo.
And following the success of the recent Irish literature course organised
by the Mansfield Irish Forum, the group has now launched another offering
participants the opportunity to study the Irish language.
Deirdre O’Byrne will return as facilitator on Monday evenings at
The Black Bull Inn on Woodhouse Road from 7-9pm.
The course is open to all and fees are £3 (£2 for concessions).
For further information please contact 01623 622 705.
The Black Bull Inn is also pleased to announce the return of Irish music
to the pub on Saturday July 14.
Dave and Jackie Kemp have teamed up with Fr. Jim Burke founder of both
the town’s Irish Association and Irish Forum to kick start the venue’s
music events with Kildare-based singer-songwriter Mick Dunne.
Popular in Nottingham before he returned to Ireland, Mick performed in
Forest Town many times for the late Mick Douglas.
Admission is free. For further details contact 01623 622 705.
