New information on missing Irish
woman
Bosnian police say they have new information about another sighting of
Winnie Brady, the missing Irish pilgrim in Medjugorje.
Ms Brady from Kilbarrack in North Dublin was last seen on September 6
at about 2pm.
The woman described by the eyewitness matches Ms Brady’s description
and was carrying a blue walking stick like the one she used.
The woman was seen at about 4.30pm not far from the guesthouse, Pansion
Lola, where Ms Brady and her friends were staying.
The eyewitness has told Bosnian police that the woman she saw was extremely
disorientated.
The sighting is a useful clue for searchers who will launch a fresh bid
to find Ms Brady this week.
This latest sighting places her on the opposite side of the town from
the main pilgrimage sites.
This Thursday, if weather permits, a huge search will be launched for
the Irish woman in the town and surrounding countryside.
Garda Tom Daly, who is with the EU police mission in Bosnia, has been
co-ordinating the search which will be the biggest yet.
He said: “It will involve professional search dogs. Police from
the Mostar support unit — the toughest and most elite police unit
in the whole area — will be taking part. We’ve been given
66 per cent of the whole unit which is unprecedented.”
Ms Brady’s family had begun to suspect a local cover-up but Mr Daly
said there is a lot of local concern that her disappearance might lead
to Medjugorje being portrayed negatively in the Irish media — and
that is why authorities are bending over backwards to give every assistance
that they can.
