Rose Of Tralee stalwart mourned  TRIBUTES
have been paid to Ted Keane — one of the driving forces of the Rose
Of Tralee Festival and a well-known figure across Britain.
The popular official died at home in the care of his family.
Ted was director of communications for the Rose Of Tralee International
Festival and popular with Rose centres across Britain.
Born in New York to Castleisland folks he returned to Ireland with his
parents who set-up business in Tralee.
After some years in UCG Ted returned to Tralee to look after his father’s
business and continued a life-long association with the Rose festival.
He became the first full-time secretary general/office manager of the
Rose Of Tralee Festival in the late 1960s and later became its president.
He became hugely popular with all the British Rose committees and was
a regular visitor to their events.
Irish Post Midlands correspondent Brendan Farrell said: “Ted was
always on hand to assist with any new Rose centres being established in
Britain.
“The Irish Post was actively involved in setting these centres up
and during our visits to Tralee Ted made sure the centres were always
made welcome.
“I had the pleasure of chatting to Ted on his regular slots on local
radio where he had a huge listener audience.
“Sadly many of us here did not hear about Ted’s passing until
after his funeral in Tralee but Leicester Rose organiser Rosaleen Duddy
Ted managed to travel to Tralee for the service.
“It’s doubtful any Rose Of Tralee organisation worldwide had
such a loyal and dedicated person as Ted Keane.
“May he rest in peace.” |
