Soap stars rooting for Hatton

Two Coronation Street stars teamed-up with Irish boxing champ Joe Egan to wish Ricky Hatton all the best for Saturday’s fight of the decade.

Hatton is streets ahead according to Manchester lads Michael Le Vell, who plays car mechanic Kevin Webster and Steve Arnold, who stars as butcher Ashley Peacock in the ITV soap.

The two actors are both keen boxing fans and friends of the boxer. They believe the sportsman can be at his best on Saturday to beat the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas in what is being called the fight of the decade.

Both of the Corrie lads wish him well.

Le Vell said: “I’ve known you a few years now, Ricky. From one Mancunian to another — good luck mate.

“We are all behind you on December 8.

“We know you can do it, we know you’ve got the power, we know you’ve got the stamina, just go out there and do the business — good luck pal.”

Le Vell’s pal and street star Steve Arnold is a big fight fan and Corrie viewers saw him in the ring with the gloves on not too long ago.

To Hatton he said: “I just want to wish you all the very best mate. Hopefully I’m going to get out there (Las Vegas) to see you. Bring that belt back mate — the nation is behind you — good luck.”

The pair are pictured here with their pal Joe Egan — a former Irish heavyweight champion.

One of Egan’s proudest moments in life was to walk out in front of Hatton with the belt prior to the Juan Urango fight in Las Vegas.

He knows a thing or two about tough boxers.

He was Mike Tyson’s sparring partner for over two years and Tyson described him as the ‘toughest white man on the planet’.

Egan said: “Ricky will be in perfect shape on Saturday. He couldn’t have picked a harder opponent but with a fair referee who lets Ricky box — he can return to Manchester as champion.”
