Bring on the all blacks
In the history
of Lansdowne road there has never been a performance of quite the same
quality as Irish rugby supporters witnessed on Sunday.
The performance in the first half was simply scintillating as Ireland
sent out a clear message ahead of next year’s World Cup.
As they did just a week ago against South Africa Eddie 0’Sullivan’s
men tore their illustrious opponents to shreds playing fast, skilful and
accurate rugby to completely shock the Wallabies.
At half time the men in green led by 15-3 but the lead could have been
so much more such was the reality of Ireland’s pure and utter dominance.
Before the game the Australian coach John Connolly said there was only
two teams in the world who were now capable of beating the All Blacks
— Australia and Ireland.
On Sunday evening he was eating his words as it became blatantly apparent
that Ireland are now the main threat to the New Zealanders ahead of next
year’s competition to be held in France.
It was the first time in the history of Irish rugby that an Irish side
had defeated two southern hemisphere sides in back-to-back games.
The final game in this magical Autumn International series sees Ireland
take on the Pacific Islanders on Sunday in what will be the last game
at the current Lansdowne Road.
The old ground has seen some amazing clashes in its time but never a performance
of such pure dominance and flair from the hosts.
