| O’Mahony tops the polls with Mayo

Following Mayo’s success in securing a place in the League semi-finals
supporters’ thoughts have started to turn to All-Ireland success
but manager John O’Mahony says: “We have done nothing yet.”
The former Galway and Leitrim boss took charge of his native county at
the end of last season and has immediately injected new life into the
team but he is reluctant to get involved in building-up his side’s
profile in the media.
He said: “You’d have to be pleased to be in the semi-finals
but we have hardly set the world alight.
“One of the things we have been trying to do is improve one game
at a time. For example at the start of the season we were performing poorly
in the second-half of games but that has been eradicated.
“We haven’t had a complete 70-minute performance yet and you
would need that to win things.
“I think that in Mayo in the past people have been starting at the
wrong end of the journey thinking about All-Irelands before the League
is even out.
“All we can do is work hard, try to improve and see where that leaves
us. We need to have everyone in the county working together.
“Any success I might ever have had came about because everyone was
united so that’s what I am trying to do.”
O’Mahony is busier than most managers at this time of the year as
he is also gearing up for the Irish General Election where he will be
hoping to win a seat for Fine Gael in Mayo.
He said: “Sunday is football day and Monday is canvassing day at
the moment but I am certainly not neglecting the football.
“Every one of the players is working hard and I am working as hard
as them to bring success for Mayo and success at the moment would be winning
our League semi-final. That is as far ahead as I am thinking.”
