Very cold at first today with frost, fog and icy patches clearing during the morning, though fog may linger in some southwestern areas into the afternoon. Dry and bright with sunny spells developing for a time. Cloudy weather with scattered outbreaks of rain will spread into northern and eastern areas during the afternoon. Top temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees and a moderate north to northwest breeze will develop.
Tonight
Some clear periods at first tonight in parts of the southwest with temperatures dipping close to zero and some frost for a time but mostly cloudy overnight with some scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle and temperatures holding between 3 and 6 degrees generally. Some clear periods may develop in northern areas towards morning allowing temperatures fall a little lower there, with a patchy frost around dawn.

WEDNESDAY: Cold on Wednesday and mostly dry and bright but there is a chance of some rain or hail showers near northern and eastern coasts. Top temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees in a light to moderate north to northeast breeze. Frosty overnight. THURSDAY, FRIDAY : Turning much colder with mainly northeast to east winds. There will be some scattered wintry showers of sleet or even snow in northern, eastern and southeastern coastal areas and especially over high ground. However the rest of the country should stay largely dry, with sunny spells. Max. daytime temperatures just 3 to 7 Celsius. Cold and very frosty nights and mornings with widespread sharp or severe frosts and sub zero air temperatures.
